Tucked away on a discreet street amongst the hustle-n-bustle of the Kowloon Tong area in Hong Kong sits 41 Cumberland Road - former residence of Bruce Lee. Lee resided here with his wife Linda, son Brandon, and daughter Shannon from 1972-73 before he succumbed to a fatal brain aneurysm at the age of 32.
Years later, the legend's former home was turned into a love motel; hardly befitting of one of Hong Kong's most revered citizens. Now, the Hong Kong government and owner Yu Pang-lin have grandiose plans to turn the 5,000-square-foot site into a 25,000-square-foot museum complex, replete with cinema, library, and martial arts center.
Yu is hoping that this will appeal to not only Bruce Lee fans, but also to locals and tourists alike. Although zoning laws and local backlash from city planning officials and the city's antiquities board have impeded the recent groundbreaking of such a project, the Hong Kong government have offered an international design competition as they seek an approved design.
